Origins of SNIP, the Special Needs Information Program
In early 1999 Coral C Software developed a software package designed to help Queensland teachers in the special needs area with the management of information about their students. This became the Special Needs Information Program, or more popularly known as "SNIP".
The software was created to address the need of schools to summarise information about students with special needs: their assessment, support received, ascertainments, and other communication. This readily-available information is valuable when case conferences are held, ascertainment review meetings are scheduled, and interventions planned. It is beneficial for informing class teachers about children in their classes, as well as for parents and the next school when a child transfers. It provides information for the Annual Operation Plan about support that students have received.
Since 1999, Coral C Software has been marketing and distributing SNIP to a large number of state and private schools throughout Queensland. The software has been maintained and improved over this time with new versions released to enhance the product and to meet the changing requirements of support teachers.
